We are a motor trimmer in Albany working out of 22 Prior Street, and we have been repairing and remaking vehicle interiors here since 1983. Our work runs from a standard car through to the biggest bus, and takes in caravans, motorbikes, boats, trucks and farm machinery along the way. Modern or vintage, if it has upholstery, a headlining, a cover or a canopy, it can come through our workshop. Alongside the trimming we run Albany Canvas & Plastics, our canvas and PVC side, which handles tarpaulins, machinery covers and shelters.
A Western Australian family business on Prior Street since 1983
Ken established the business in 1983 in Prior Street, Albany, and it has stayed a Western Australian-owned and operated family business ever since. Ken has been working in the trade for over 30 years, and he and Gwenda have now welcomed their son David into the business. Between them the shop has been doing motor trimming for over 35 years. As the canvas and PVC work grew we extended the premises to take on the increasing size of the jobs arriving at the door. We pride ourselves on the quality of the workmanship and the materials we use. Ken Stone Motor Trimmers holds a Motor Vehicle repairers licence and has licensed trimmers, which is what allows us to carry out these repairs.
Motor trimming, headlining and vehicle covers
Most of what arrives here is a repair or a replacement to a vehicle’s interior or its covers. We re-line roofs, repair door trims, recover seats, and build tonneaus and trailer covers from quality marine hooding and PVC. Vintage vehicles are a regular part of the workload, and replacing an original headlining is a job we do often. Tonneaus are made to suit the individual vehicle in premium marine grade material or reinforced PVC. Where a cover can be saved we will resew it, modify it or replace a broken loop rather than start again from scratch.
Trimming and cover work we take on
- Roof linings: interior headlinings for modern vehicles, and replacement linings for vintage cars.
- Seats and door trims: canvas seat covers, seat repairs, door trim repairs and motorbike seats.
- Tonneaus and trailer covers: made to measure in marine hooding or reinforced PVC, with resewing and loop replacement available.
- Canvas and PVC canopies: built in high grade reinforced canvas or PVC in a range of colours, with fly screens for camping, window replacement, and modifications to fit a different vehicle.
- Spare wheel covers: made to fit the vehicle.
Albany Canvas & Plastics: tarpaulins, machinery covers and shelters
Over the last few years the number of tarpaulins and covers we were making from PVC products grew enough that we added the Albany Canvas & Plastics label to the Ken Stone name. It runs in conjunction with the motor trimming and specialises in tarpaulins, machinery covers and shelters. We make roll tarps, poly tarps, PVC tarps and canvas tarps, along with ground sheets, sand tarps, builders tarps, field bin tarps, mesh load covers and shade mesh wind breaks, and we repair side curtains. Portable shearing shed covers and wide span Eco Shelters are part of the range for farm and work-site jobs.
On the water we make and repair boat canopies and side clears, biminis, boat covers, seats and cushions, and we fit marine carpet, hull lining and cabin lining. Padded window protection is available for boats travelling any distance. For caravanners and campers there are roll-out awnings, PVC mesh annexes, solid wall annexes, annex repairs and modifications, generator covers, canvas and PVC bags, windbreaks, and covers for camping gear. Closer to home, our outdoor blinds cover PVC mesh patio blinds, shade mesh screens and PVC privacy screens.
