Grove Securities: financial planning in Albany WA
Grove Securities Pty Ltd provides financial planning in Albany from our office at 49 Serpentine Road. The firm was established in Albany in 1999 and has since added a second office in Perth.
How the firm is structured
We are privately owned. We describe that structure as keeping us independent of external financial institutions, and as letting us choose research providers on our clients’ behalf rather than through a corporate relationship. Our staff are not set minimum sales quotas and are not paid volume-based incentives. Our Financial Services Guide, privacy policy and continuing professional development policy are all published on our website, and are the place to start if you want to know how we work before making contact.
The areas we advise on
We publish four areas of advice. What follows is our own account of what each of them involves.
Our four advice areas
- Financial planning: we assist in developing clear goals, and will consider your current financial position, your hopes and plans for the future.
- Investing: we begin by obtaining a detailed and deep understanding of your particular goals and circumstances, then develop personalised investment strategies and portfolios.
- Self managed superannuation: SMSFs are a core component of our business, and we split the work into SMSF Strategic Advice, SMSF Investing and SMSF Administration.
- Insurance: personal risk insurance for family protection, for funding business shareholder agreements, and key man cover for key employees.
Inside financial planning, the strategies that may be available include appropriate structuring of your assets, utilising superannuation opportunities, retirement income streams, risk management, government benefits, salary packaging, investing, estate planning and cash flow management, amongst others. An initial comprehensive financial plan might provide you with a road map of strategies and product recommendations, but effectively implementing the plan, monitoring progress and making adjustments over time is also critical, as circumstances, legislation and economic conditions change and evolve. That continuing part of the work is easy to underestimate when a plan is first handed over.
On investing, we work to a robust framework for investment decision making, which puts each investor’s interests at the forefront of every decision. Our approach focuses on strategic advice and forward looking fundamentals, which we believe are most likely to prevail over the longer term, and on how investments might perform under different economic scenarios. Understanding the return potential of investments is important, and that is one reason we strongly favour direct investments and transparency.
On self managed superannuation, the strategic advice side covers admission of new members or trustees, contribution rules, investing rules, gearing rules, estate planning, and benefit payment and pension rules. On insurance, we help with determining the type and amount of cover, structuring policy ownership, reducing premiums, choosing policy features, comparing products, and assisting with the claims management process.
The people in our offices
We are a team of twelve. Mark Grist is our Managing Director and a Senior Financial Adviser, and Penny Slebos is a Director and Senior Financial Adviser. Caillie Carpenter is a Financial Adviser. Martina Sobrino Miozzo, Sally Fogg, Natalie Cripps and Taleka Romeo are Adviser Assistants. Phoebe Tetlow, Mallory Tucker, Sue Colgate and Lilly Witt are Portfolio Administrators, and Amber Botha is our Receptionist. Portfolio administration being a job of its own here is worth noting: it is the work of keeping accounts and records in order between reviews, rather than something an adviser fits in around appointments.
