Harley Dykstra: Surveyors, Town Planners and Project Managers in Albany WA

Harley Dykstra is a land development consultancy made up of surveyors, project managers and town planners, and our Great Southern office is at 31 Albany Highway, Albany. We work as surveyors in Albany and across the wider Great Southern, and we also see clients in Denmark by appointment. The firm has supported land development and infrastructure projects across Western Australia, from concept to completion, for over 70 years.

Founded in the Great Southern in 1954

The business was founded in 1954 by Eric Harley, trading as Harley Global, with the aim of lifting the quality of surveying across the Great Southern. Harley Global merged with Dykstra Planning in 2014 and became Harley Dykstra. The consultancy has since expanded to cover the South West and the Perth metropolitan area, while keeping the Great Southern office where it all started.

Sebastian Bolhuis, one of our Executive Directors, initially hails from Albany. He has over 30 years of experience in land development and surveying, and he oversees our Perth, Albany and Bunbury offices. Henry Dykstra, also an Executive Director, is a town planner with over 25 years of town planning and land development experience across private consultancy and both state and local government, including town planning advocacy in the State Administrative Tribunal.

Surveying work from our Albany Highway office

We offer engineering and licensed surveying services, from property and boundary work through to aerial and hydro survey, for land, infrastructure and urban development projects.

The surveys listed on our website

  • Cadastral surveys: boundary and title work, identifying and marking where a parcel of land actually starts and stops.
  • Feature and contour surveys: recording the existing features and levels of a site before anything is designed.
  • Construction surveys: setting out on site while the work is being built.
  • As-constructed surveys: recording what was built, and where, once construction is finished.
  • Aerial surveys: capture from the air over a site or a larger area.
  • Laser scanning and reality capture: three-dimensional capture of existing sites and structures.
  • Bathymetric and hydro surveys: measurement of water depths and bed levels.
  • Volume surveys: measuring quantities such as stockpiles and excavations.
  • Specialty surveys: listed on our site for work that sits outside the standard categories.

Town planning and project management across the Great Southern

Our town planning team takes on preliminary planning investigations, rezoning of land, structure plans, subdivision approvals and development approvals. Our planners work within a multi-disciplinary team, and their stated aim is to be involved in projects that have a realistic prospect of approval and can be practically implemented. On the project management side we handle project due diligence, development condition management and complete project management.

We work with local land developers, government agencies, commercial developers and home owners. Where you already have architects and contractors engaged, we work alongside them rather than around them. Local work includes Little Grove, a residential subdivision on the southern side of Albany overlooking the city, where a single long residential lot was prepared for subdivision into 16 residential lots for future home builders.
