We are a family owned, independently run pet shop at 134 Albany Highway. If you are after pet supplies in Albany – food, bedding, tanks, accessories, or just a straight answer about a new arrival – we are open seven days a week. The same family behind the counter since 2001
Mark and Sheryl Muscat took the shop over in December 2001 from Mark’s parents, who had run it for the twelve years before that. Back then it traded as Budget Pet Shop. In 2012 we moved into bigger premises and became Head to Tail Pets, and Lynelle Dusterhoft manages the store day to day.
Our team are trained in pet nutrition and health care, and we work closely with a local vet so the advice you get across the counter matches what you would be told in a consulting room. Our aim is simple enough: good service and the right advice, so you can be the best pet parent you can be. If we do not have what you need on the shelf, ask us and we will see whether we can order it in.
What you will find in store
We keep a large range of pet food and accessories, and there are usually animals in store looking for homes. The mix changes, so it is worth a look in person.
Animals and product ranges
- Fish, fresh and marine: tanks, stock and the gear to run them, plus our own marine set-up and maintenance guide covering filtration, substrate, salinity and lighting.
- Corals, anemones and invertebrates: for reef and specialist set-ups.
- Birds: in store alongside cages, feed and accessories.
- Small animals: rabbits and guinea pigs, with housing and feed to suit.
- Hermit crabs: a long-running favourite here, with care information to go with them.
- Chickens and ducks: in store from time to time.
- Live plants: for aquariums and terrariums.
- Pet food and accessories: a broad range, from everyday food through to the odds and ends.
We also publish fact sheets you can read any time – marine tank set-up and maintenance, joint mobility, snake awareness, and toxic plants to keep away from your animals.
Animal welfare, rescue kittens and our local vet
Having live animals for sale is a big responsibility and we treat it that way. Every animal in the shop is checked hourly to make sure the cage is clean, the water is fresh and the animal is well. We follow the pet industry code of practice set by the Pet Industry Association of Australia, and we do not support puppy farms or people breeding repeatedly from their own pets.
The kittens you sometimes see here are not ours to sell. They are foster cats from Alley Cat Rescue Team, a volunteer-run, independently funded rescue organisation in Albany, and they are in store looking for homes. We occasionally hold meet and greet days so you can come and ask about fostering or adopting. Alley Cat gets no government funding, so donations towards vet bills, food and toys go a long way. We also work closely with Mira Mar Veterinary Hospital here in Albany, which means we can point you to help that goes beyond what a pet shop can offer.
Pet Club, in-car delivery and opening hours
Join the H2T Pet Club and you will get a voucher for 3 per cent off each sale, valid for 60 days and redeemable on your next purchase, plus member-only offers. The vouchers do not apply to live animals, sale items, grooming or large fish tanks. Seniors cardholders can register their card for automatic discounts.
If you can drive but cannot get into the shop, we run a contactless in-car delivery service. Call us on 08 9841 7911 at least half an hour before you plan to be in our car park, place the order and pay by card over the phone, then ring again when you arrive and we will bring it out to your boot. We also have an online store and a home delivery service.
We are open Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm, Saturday 9.00am to 5.00pm, Sunday 10.00am to 4.00pm and public holidays 10.00am to 3.00pm. We are closed on Good Friday and Christmas Day. Come and see us at 134 Albany Highway.
