Thirty years in the Great Southern, under the same management
We began in 1991 and marked 30 years of service in the Great Southern in 2021. Phil Shilcock and Michelle Gray have managed the business since 1999, so most of that history has been under the same two people. We are a small, family-owned business, 100 per cent locally owned, and we opened up to serve the Narrogin area in 2006 — which is why there are two offices and two numbers rather than one. We describe ourselves as the only local business of our kind in the area, and we are proud of several local Chamber of Commerce business awards. The way we put our approach is proactive, progressive and capable, and the principle behind it is that our business succeeds by making our customers successful. The names on our testimonials give a fair picture of who we look after: Lincolns, Merrifield Real Estate, Albany Secondary Education Support Centre, Albany Golf Club and Fletcher International WA.
The brands we carry, and what we supply
Our technology partners are Ricoh, Konica Minolta, Brother, BenQ and Sylex. Ricoh and Konica Minolta cover the copier and multifunction side, Brother the everyday print devices, BenQ the visual display and interactive panel work, and Sylex the office furniture. On the copier side we point people at the Konica Minolta bizhub range when colour matters. Finishing options include stapling, hole punching and booklet creation, and the machines handle network printing, scan-to-email, scan-to-file into a network folder or document management system, mobile printing and customisable control panels. Colour access can be restricted by user, which is usually the first thing a business asks about once it sees a colour bill.

Digitising documents and getting print costs under control
A good deal of our work now has nothing to do with a machine on a bench. Document capture runs your paper through Optical Character Recognition and barcode recognition so the information is read off the page and indexed rather than filed and forgotten. You can do that centrally with dedicated scanning equipment, or in a distributed way through the multifunction copiers you already own. Search and retrieval then puts that archive behind a login, with permissions so staff see only what they should, running either on-site or in the cloud. The practical gains are the dull, useful ones: off-site backups for disaster recovery, view logs for compliance, audit trails of who changed what, and check-in and check-out so two people can work on a file without overwriting each other. We also automate accounts payable. On the print side, our managed print service looks at ink and paper usage, busy printing times and departmental printing habits, with the aim of turning an uncontrolled cost into a predictable one.
Service after the sale, and how to reach us
Selling the device is the easy part. We install it, train your people to use it properly, and handle maintenance, repair and overhaul afterwards, with trained technical staff covering both the Albany and Narrogin regions. If something stops working you can lodge a service call through the service request form on our website, or simply ring the office. Supplies can be set up on a regular order and delivered straight to your door, so nobody has to drive across town for a box of paper. If you are fitting out a new office, weighing up a copier lease, or just tired of not knowing what your printing costs each month, ring Albany on (08) 9842 1333 or Narrogin on (08) 9881 4685 and we will talk it through.
