Rick Wilson MP: federal Member for O’Connor in Albany WA

Rick Wilson has represented the people of O’Connor in Federal Parliament since 2013, and he is the federal Member for O’Connor for the Liberal Party. Our Albany electorate office is at 101 Albany Highway and can be reached on 08 9842 2777. O’Connor is one of the largest electorates in the country, and this office is where people in Albany and the Great Southern bring a federal matter, whether that is a question about a Commonwealth department, a local project, or a request for a flag for a school.

About Rick

Rick was one of six children raised on the family farm at Katanning, and he says the electorate has always been his home. His father died while he was still a teenager, and he and his brother kept farming the land their great-grandfather first worked in 1867, side by side for 25 years. He farmed wheat and sheep from 1990 until he entered Parliament in 2013. Before that he was Vice-Chairman and then Chairman of the Grains Committee at the Pastoralists and Graziers Association, and it was a decade-long campaign to deregulate the wheat industry that first drew him into politics. In 2015 Rick and his wife Tanya moved from Katanning to Albany, where they raise their four children. He was returned at the 2025 election for a fifth consecutive term.

Our electorate offices

O’Connor takes in Albany, Kalgoorlie and Esperance along with the southern parts of the wheatbelt, so the electorate is served from five offices rather than one. Three are staffed full time and two open part time, and any of them can take a constituent matter no matter which town you live in.

Committee work and areas of focus

Rick has served on a long list of parliamentary committees, most of them tied to the industries that matter here. He chaired the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Water Resources from October 2016 and has been Deputy Chair of the Agriculture committee since August 2022. He also sat on the Select Committee on Regional Australia from 2019 to 2022, and on standing committees covering Agriculture and Industry, Indigenous Affairs, Communications and the Arts, Environment and Energy, and Industry, Science and Resources. He chaired the Joint Statutory Committee on Public Works from December 2020 to April 2022, and served as Shadow Assistant Minister for Trade from June 2022. He has sat on the Speaker’s Panel since 2019. The areas he names as his focus are small government and reduced bureaucracy, better health, aged care and education services in the regions, and improving the communications network.

What our office can help with

Community groups across the electorate can apply through us for Volunteer Grants, and we publish the outcomes. Recent recipients include the Blackwood Environment Society, for volunteer training in nursery safe practice, propagation and seed storage at its Community Nursery; the Walpole CRC, for a Thank a Volunteer Day with a Blessing of the Fleet, market stalls and guest speakers; and the Ports Football Club, for volunteer upskilling aimed at sharing the load and preventing burnout. You can also request an Australian, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander flag, or an annual calendar, through the form on our website. Media releases, news and videos are published there as well.
