Southern Sharpening Services: knife and tool sharpening in Albany WA
We are a family owned business at 3A/14 Minna Street, Albany, and we do sharpening in Albany and across the Great Southern for domestic, industrial and commercial customers. Between the three groups we look after, the work ranges from a household bread knife to chipper knives off an industrial machine, and our staff have years of experience and training behind them.
What we sharpen
The list below covers most of what comes through the door, though it is not everything. If you need something sharpened that is not on it, give us a call and we will tell you whether we can help.
Our sharpening work
- Kitchen and house: knives of all types and brands, scissors including paper, dressmaking and hairdressing shears, food processor blades, and mincer cutters and plates.
- Garden: hedge clippers and shears, secateurs, loppers, pruning saws, axes, shovels and chainsaws.
- Animal and clipper work: animal clippers, hair clippers and animal ear markers.
- Saw blades: TCT saw blade sharpening and re-tipping, hand saws sharpened, set and re-tipped, holesaws and band saw blades.
- Workshop tooling: router bits, chisels, drill bits of all types, planer knives, chipper knives, circular knives and cold cut blades.
Turnaround and a few things worth knowing
We usually try to do knives the same day or the following day. Circular saw blades take longer, normally two to three days, and we can sharpen all TCT circular blades. One question we get constantly: bread knives can only be sharpened on one side, not on the wavy side. We also supply band saw blades, made up on a need basis to your own requirements, so tell us the length and the tooth pattern you are after. We accept cash, EFTPOS and credit cards.
What we sell
We do not just sharpen knives, we sell them. Our knife range covers Victorinox, Victorinox Swibo, Tojiro, F. Dick, Mundial, Kamati, Cuisinart and Avanti, from paring knives and cooks knives through to cleavers, Chinese choppers, slicers, boning, skinning and filleting knives, and five, nine and fourteen piece blocks. There are filleting knives with and without a scaler, and butchers’ patterns from F. Dick alongside the Swibo range, so trade customers as well as home cooks are covered. We stock Flamingo hairdressing scissors in offset, ergonomic and straightset patterns, and sets of steak knives. For keeping an edge at home there are waterstones, oil stones, manual and electric sharpeners, and an Edge Master sharpening steel. Beyond knives we carry general hardware, tools, sharps and marking tools, saw blades, bandsaws, hole saws and router bits, portable fire equipment and first aid supplies, and a kitchen and homewares range. If we do not have what you are after, we are happy to arrange a custom order.
Locally made giftware, and where we service
We also keep a shelf of locally made products and giftware: bookends and gavels, key racks, boxes, puzzles and toys, cheese knives, coasters and trivets. They are a useful thing to know about when you need a present that came from somewhere near here rather than off a container. The same goes for our cheese knife and trivet sets, which sit across both the homewares and locally made shelves. Our service area covers the Great Southern region, including Albany, Denmark, Mount Barker, Walpole, Frankland, Cranbrook, Kojonup and Katanning.
