A family business at Torbay since 1983
Gary and Jean Wilson moved their family of four children from Green Range to Torbay in 1981, and what started as a hobby became a business in 1983. Gary designed and developed the original machinery. Their youngest son, Ian, trained as an agricultural plant mechanic, learned the trade from his father, and built up the wrecking and repair side alongside the manufacturing. Gary and Jean retired in 2014, and Ian now owns and operates the business with his wife Laura, who looks after the general management. The farm land here has grown as the wrecking yard has grown with it.
Wilson Machinery: built on site at Torbay
Everything under the Wilson Machinery name is designed, developed and made here, which means we can build to what a job actually needs rather than what a catalogue happens to offer. Trailing slashers, Giant series slashers and stick rakes are all custom built, and we have made a Giant series slasher with a 10.6 metre cut for broadacre work.
What we manufacture
- L and M series slashers: L series at 1m, 1.2m and 1.4m cut on 3mm deck plate with a 40HP drive line; M series at 1.5m and 1.8m on 4mm deck plate with a 75HP drive line. Both have an adjustable, offsettable head frame with top link mounts.
- H100 and H130 series slashers: both at 1.8m and 2.1m cut on twin solid rear wheels. The H100 uses 5mm high tensile plate with a 100HP drive line; the H130 uses 4mm Hardox plate, a 350mm deck height and a 130HP drive line.
- Specialist slashers and mowers: timed rotor slashers, a road verge slasher with adjustable offset to work around road markers, custom offset slashers with side discharge, the Super Wizard mulching slasher for vineyards and orchards, tagasaste mowers for single-row work, and a parkland mower that gives a clean finish on golf club fairways, ovals and sporting grounds.
- Rippers: Cat 1, 2 and 3, single or multiple tyne, with adjustable high tensile Hardox tynes. The Cat 3 takes manual or hydraulic tyne adjustment.
- Pipe layers and spinning jennies: pipe layers handle up to 2 inch pipe with joiners; the standard spinning jenny takes 200 metre rolls of 2 inch pipe and the heavy duty version takes 500 metre rolls.
- Mounders and grader blades: Cat 2 and 3 mounders with two or four disc combinations and optional press wheels, and 3PL grader blades at 2.4m, 3m and 3.6m on twin wheels with hydraulic side shift and tilt.
- Linkage and handling gear: 80 series and Inter linkage kits, general 3PL kits, and hay spikes in linkage or Euro hitch styles.
Wilson Wrecking: the tractor yard
We hold a large range of second-hand tractors for dismantling, along with headers and general machinery including seeding and hay equipment. What is on the ground moves constantly, but the yard has carried Chamberlain 4080s, 9Gs, 6Gs and 354s, John Deere from a 2020 through to an 8970, Massey Ferguson 65, 165, 3635 and 8160, Ford 3000, 6700, 9700 and TW5, Fordson Power Major and Super Major, Case 1896 and 2590, New Holland 4835 and 8560, McCormick MTX and XTX 185, Deutz Agroplus 70, Kubota M7500DT, David Brown 885, Leyland 270, Iseki 2160, Same Frutetto 75, Agco Allis 9675 and Allis Chalmers D21, plus Versatile and Steiger units. On the header side we have carried Case 1480, 1680, 1688 and 2188 and International 1460, and the general section runs to mowers, balers, combines and ploughs. Dismantled tractors and agricultural machinery are shipped Australia wide.
Wilson Sales: parts, oils and attachments
We stock a wide range of new, genuine and aftermarket parts as agents for Bare Co and Sparex, and we are the main distributors for Pizey post hole digger parts. We are Digga West agents and can order in implements and attachments, and we also handle Schaffer and Intermercato gear. On the shelf you will find Gulf Western Oils, blades and spray equipment, along with our own polo shirts, hoodies, caps and stubby holders, which we will post out.
