BTG Mechanical and Performance: Car Servicing and Tuning in Albany WA
We are a small workshop doing mechanical repairs in Albany WA from 163 Chester Pass Road, and we work on two things: keeping ordinary cars running properly, and getting more out of the ones people want to go harder. General servicing, brakes and suspension sit alongside diesel tuning and aftermarket ECU work, on foreign and domestic vehicles alike.
A dyno on site, not just a scan tool
What separates us from a straight service centre is the AWD mainline dyno in the workshop. It means tuning is measured rather than guessed — we can load the car up, see what it is actually doing, and tune vehicles of all kinds against real numbers instead of a generic map. That runs from a diesel ute owner chasing better towing manners through to aftermarket ECU installs and performance exhaust work. Alongside the dyno we run five gas analysers, and we use current diagnostic tools for the everyday side of the job, which is where most electrical faults get found.
Remapping, and the jobs we suggest doing first
We map four sorts of engine: common rail, mechanical diesel, EFI and carburetted. Before a remap we will usually raise a few things, because a car that makes more power needs to be able to use it. A standard clutch is often not enough once engine output improves, so we recommend replacing it with a heavy duty clutch. Modern engines recirculate exhaust gas back through the intake manifold, and the carbon build-up that follows restricts air flow, so an intake clean improves power, efficiency and the general health of the engine. A higher flowing exhaust improves engine efficiency, so we suggest sorting the exhaust before the map rather than after it.
Injectors are the other one. Injector maintenance is quite commonly overlooked, and a failing or blocked injector can damage an engine or reduce performance. We clean injectors here on an ASNU injector cleaner, and we have a Bosch style injector cleaner in house as well. We are also a FuelTech dealer, which is the substance behind the aftermarket ECU work: we handle the FT700, FT600, FT450 and FT550 engine control and monitoring systems, along with FuelTech injectors.
Repairs, servicing and the lines we stock
What we take on
- General service and repairs: the routine work that keeps a car on the road.
- Engine repair: from diagnosis through to the mechanical work itself.
- Transmission services: transmission work as part of the general repair offering.
- Electrical diagnosis and repair: faults traced with current diagnostic equipment.
- Brakes: inspection, replacement and repair, with RDA Brakes stocked.
- Suspension: standard repairs and aftermarket suspension, including Tough Dog.
- Exhausts: Manta, King Brown and Pacemaker on the shelf, and custom systems fabricated here for a build.
- Engine remapping and aftermarket ECUs: tuning for diesel and petrol vehicles, including the FuelTech range.
- Injector cleaning: fuel system work on an ASNU cleaner to get injectors flowing as they should.
The brake side is not only retail. We are a regional stockist and supplier of RDA Brakes, and we recommend other mechanical stores shift to them, so if you run a workshop rather than a car, ring us and we can talk about what we can do to help.
Booking the car in
The workshop is at 163 Chester Pass Road, Albany, open Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm and closed on Saturday and Sunday. Call 08 9841 5041 or email [email protected] to book a service, a diagnosis or a dyno session. If you are ringing about tuning, have the make, model, engine and any modifications ready — it makes the first conversation a much shorter one. We are committed to honest and transparent service, and we would rather build a long relationship with a customer than win one job.
