Discover Restaurant Le Grande: a restaurant in Albany WA

We are a restaurant in Albany at 479 Albany Highway, open seven days a week from 6pm till late to the public as well as to house guests. The kitchen works in an innovative Mediterranean style, with local seafood and produce coming in daily and a fish of the day on the specials board. There is a bar and lounge for a drink before you sit down. Bookings on (08) 9841 3600.

What is on the menu

To start there is homemade soup of the day, bruschetta on crispy ciabatta with tomato, Spanish onion and herbs under a balsamic glaze, garlic bread on pane di casa, and an antipasto board of continental cured meats, cheese, olives, sundried tomatoes and grilled chorizo, sized for two or for four. The Caesar comes with cos, crispy sourdough, anchovies, oven roasted pancetta and parmesan. Panko-crumbed calamari arrives with a chilli and lime vodka aioli, and the garlic prawns are done in a creamy white wine sauce with a timbale of jasmine rice.

Mains lean seafood and Mediterranean. Seafood linguine comes in a creamy saffron sauce with fresh tomato; pumpkin gnocchi in sundried tomato, basil and white wine with spinach and parmesan; tortellini filled with eggplant, sundried tomato and peppers through a chargrilled capsicum napolitana. Off the grill and the stove there is a 350g scotch fillet with duck fat confit potato wedges and your pick of garlic, peppercorn, mushroom or red wine jus, twice-cooked pork belly on pea and apple puree with grilled Shark Bay scallops, lamb shoulder slow braised in Moroccan spices with preserved lemon rice and mint yoghurt, oven baked duck breast with maple and citrus mash, and a chicken masala in a creamy tomato sauce. Chicken parmigiana and spaghetti bolognaise are there for anyone who wants them. Sides run to steamed vegetables in thyme and black pepper, sweet potato wedges, steakhouse chips with confit garlic and parmesan aioli, and a garden salad. There is a vegan main of mixed vegetables in a spiced Indian coconut sauce with rice and eggplant kasundi.

The bar, and local wine

The bar opens before dinner, and the lounge is where people tend to end up for pre-dinner drinks, a cocktail or a freshly made cappuccino. Our wine list leans local, which in this part of the world means the Great Southern. If you have spent the day at the wineries and come back with a bottle, bring it in and we will cook something to go with it.

Functions and conferences

Restaurant Le Grande has a function centre attached to it: 150 square metres of pillarless function space, which matters when you are setting out tables and do not want a post in the middle of the room. It is set up for gala balls, business meetings, trade shows, banquets and cocktail parties, with a data projector, screen, whiteboards and TV and video available. Menus are tailored to the event rather than picked off a fixed list, and our catering team will work one through with you. Capacity is quoted at between 10 and 150 people depending on the layout.

The motel side

Restaurant Le Grande sits inside Motel Le Grande, which is family owned and operated and has 53 rooms — one-bedroom motel rooms, two-bedroom self-contained apartments, and one and two-bedroom units with a lounge room.
