Rustlers Steakhouse & Grill: A Steakhouse on Stirling Terrace, Albany WA

Rustlers is a steakhouse in Albany at 222 Stirling Terrace, and we have been feeding this town for more than 20 years. Our own shorthand for the place is “more than just a steakhouse”: the grill is the centre of it, but the menu runs wider than beef.

How Rustlers got here

The kitchen changed shape in 2005, when chef Les Palmer joined, drawn by the ability to bring people together, locals, travellers, families and friends, around a great meal. Susie Palmer came on in 2006, bringing the customer care, team development and the systems that keep a restaurant running. When the original owners retired in 2016, Les and Susie took over the business.

Where the food comes from

Bringing in Stirling Ranges Beef was the turn that set the rest of the menu. From there we committed to showcasing the best of WA: Frankland River pork, Great Southern lamb, local seafood wherever possible, and wines sourced exclusively from the Great Southern Wine Region. Working with local suppliers is how the produce stays fresh and how regional farmers stay in the picture.

That commitment has been tested. Through COVID-19, and through the cost-of-living and supply-chain pressure that followed it, what we did was hold fair prices, keep the quality up and double down on local sourcing. The other local thing this kitchen does is train people: we describe ourselves as a training ground for young locals.

What is on the menu

A few of our dishes

  • Stirling Ranges Sirloin: the cut the rest of the menu was built around.
  • WA grilled chicken breast: for the table that is not all steak.
  • Pan-fried barramundi: our seafood option.
  • Vegan option: a dedicated dish on the menu, not an afterthought.
  • Chocolate brownie and panna cotta: both gluten free, from the dessert list.
  • Garlic bread and baked loaves: to start.

Alongside those we run daily dishes, a kids’ menu, a drinks list and a dessert menu. We cater to a range of dietary preferences, including vegetarian and halal options, so say so when you book.

Takeaway, bookings and the house rules

There is a limited takeaway menu available for online ordering. Daily availability is capped, so it is best to order early rather than late. We also sell eGift cards online if you are buying a meal for someone else.

Two things worth knowing before you come in. Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are strongly recommended, particularly on a busy evening. And we have a strict no BYO policy.

Groups, functions and booking

We are open seven days, from midday to 2pm and from 5pm till late. Bookings go through the Book Now link on our website. For groups of 20 or more, email [email protected] and we will work through customisable set menu options with you, whether it is a birthday, a celebration or a work function. We are also running Shelter Together, a Community Bank Albany homelessness fundraiser, and there is a Join the Crew page on our website if you are after work in the kitchen or on the floor. You will find us at 222 Stirling Terrace, Albany WA 6330, or on (08) 9800 9191.
