Southwest Chiropractic: Low Force Chiropractic Care in Albany WA

We are a chiropractic practice at Unit 26/227 North Road, Centennial Park, in Albany, and we also see patients in Denmark. Our work is low force chiropractic care in Albany WA, focused mostly on the Activator and on soft tissue release. The practice is Dr Rohan Macdougall and Dr Isabel Galante, and appointments are made on (08) 9842 3303.

The practitioners

Dr Rohan Macdougall graduated from Murdoch University in Western Australia in 2009 with honours. She came to work in Albany in 2011 and bought the practice in 2015. She has since completed a Masters in Medicine in Pain Management through Sydney University. Alongside the Activator, she uses soft tissue methods including trigger point therapy, dry needling, Active Release Techniques and Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation.

Dr Isabel Galante graduated from Murdoch University in 2016. She owned a practice in Mount Barker from 2018 and joined us here in 2021. She works with the low force Activator technique and a range of soft tissue therapies, is an advocate for evidence based practice, and sees patients of all ages.

What low force means, and what we treat

The Activator is a spring-loaded instrument. It puts a very quick, very specific stretch through the joints and muscles, without the manual thrust some people picture when they think of a chiropractor. That is the main reason patients who are wary of being adjusted by hand, or who are older or very young, are often referred to us.

We do not work only on spines. Along with spinal joints, we see extremities: wrists, shoulders, hips and knees. Whether a particular problem is something we treat is a fair question to ask on the phone before you book.

Appointments and what to expect

You do not need a referral from a GP to see a chiropractor. On a first visit there is some paperwork, then a physical examination with specific tests, and then treatment, which may include adjustment, mobilisation, soft tissue work and exercises to do at home. Initial appointments run for 30 minutes and standard follow-up appointments for 10.

We take X-rays only where they are clinically necessary, and we can arrange a referral for imaging where it is needed. Concessions are available for seniors, students and children under 14, and private health rebates may apply depending on your cover. Current fees are listed on our website.

Consulting hours, parking and getting in touch

Our consulting hours are Monday 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 6pm; Tuesday 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 5.30pm; Wednesday 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 5.30pm; Thursday 2.30pm to 5.30pm; and Friday 10am to 1pm and 2.30pm to 5.30pm. The clinic runs in two blocks most days, so it is worth checking the times before you ring.

The practice is at Unit 26/227 North Road, Centennial Park. There is parking in the Precision Hearing carpark as well as in front of the office, which is useful if getting in and out of a car is part of the problem you are coming about. To book, or to ask whether we can help with a particular problem, ring (08) 9842 3303 or email [email protected].
