We are optometrists in Albany, at 2/77 Lockyer Avenue in Centennial Park, and we have practised here since 2002. We are independent and locally owned. Our work covers comprehensive eye examinations, contact lens fitting, dry eye and eye health management, and prescription glasses and sunglasses, with a particular concentration on custom multifocal lenses. How a consultation is structured
We book 40 minutes for a consultation rather than a shorter slot, and that applies to all patients. The time is used to assess eye health and vision and to understand how you actually use your eyes day to day before anything is recommended. As an independent practice we are not working to someone else’s appointment template, which is what makes the longer consultation possible. Comprehensive examinations are available for all ages and include assessment for conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts and macular degeneration. Where a same-day appointment is needed for an urgent problem, we can usually accommodate one. Appointments are essential, so please ring rather than calling in.

- Low vision management: support for patients with non-correctable visual impairment.
- Foreign body removal: extraction of a foreign body from the eye.
- Safety and occupational eyecare: prescription safety glasses and workplace eye health advice.
- Sports vision: visual training and sports eyewear.
Lenses, the DNEye scan and our lens lab
Multifocal lenses are the area we have concentrated on longest. We use Rodenstock lenses together with a DNEye biometric scanner, which takes measurements from thousands of data points across each eye so the lens can be made to those individual measurements rather than to a standard template. The same approach applies to single vision lenses. We also run an in-store lens lab, which means glazing, adjustments and refinements can be handled on site rather than sent away, and turnaround times are shorter for it.
Frames and sunglasses
We hand-select Australian and European frames rather than carrying a standard range. The brands displayed in the practice include Charmant, Face à Face, Stepper, WOOW, Kaleos and Morel. Our team will work through face shape, lifestyle and preference with you, and there is no obligation attached to trying frames on. Every pair is fitted with lenses made to your prescription, including the custom multifocal options above. Contact lenses are handled the same way: we assess suitability, fit the lens, teach wear and care, and review it over time rather than treating the fitting as the end of the job.
The team
Gerry de Klerk and Ronelle lead our optometry team. Gerry holds a Bachelor of Optometry (RAU) with an OCANZ certificate, alongside a BSc in chemistry, biochemistry and human physiology, BSc (Hons) in biochemistry, a tertiary education diploma and a B Tech in management practice, and has been practising for more than 20 years. The practice takes part in work experience programs and supports community events.
Visiting the practice
We are open Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm, and Saturday by appointment only. We are closed Sunday. There is free parking directly outside the practice.
