Advanced Family & Sports Podiatry: Podiatry in Albany WA

We are Advanced Family & Sports Podiatry, a podiatry practice in Albany WA at 37/39 Pioneer Road. In our own description, we are a modern, well equipped and professionally managed podiatry practice servicing the Albany community. Our work falls into three areas: foot health, healing and pain management; injury and rehabilitation; and performance and enhancement.

The team at Pioneer Road

Mark Ireland is our Owner and Principal Podiatrist, Paul Craggs is a Senior Podiatrist, and Andrea Obek is a podiatrist with the practice. Chris Dorman works with us as a strength and conditioning coach and orthotic technician, which is part of how our orthotics are made here on site rather than sent away and waited on. Di Brown manages the practice, Marney Warrington runs the front office, and Lorinda Knox and Arabella Luscombe are on reception.

Mark has 19 years in podiatry. He started his career in Newcastle, New South Wales, at one of that state’s busiest and best established sports podiatry clinics, where he helped manage athletes from the Newcastle Knights, the Hunter Pirates and the Newcastle Jets, and worked with orthopaedic surgeons on post-operative rehabilitation. In his own words, his special interests are sports injury rehabilitation, foot orthotic design and manufacture, and running-related injuries, and his aim is to educate patients so they have a clear understanding of their concerns.

Paul has over 30 years’ experience in high-risk diabetic foot care in hospital settings, along with biomechanical deformities and minor surgery. He has worked in New Zealand, Victoria and Queensland, and more recently in the Middle East.

The core belief we say we work to is a short one: getting you better, together.

Assessment and treatment equipment on site

Several of the things we list are pieces of equipment rather than techniques, and they are worth knowing about before you book. We use diagnostic ultrasound and radial shockwave therapy, a musculoskeletal laser and a Lunula cold laser, and Swift for wart treatment. For assessment we use a force plate treadmill and 3D gait analysis. Custom foot orthotics are made on site.

The podiatry services we provide

What we assess and treat

  • Foot health, healing and pain management: general footcare, diabetic foot assessment, ingrown toenails, fungal nail infections, warts, Swift wart treatment and Lunula cold laser.
  • Injury and rehabilitation: heel pain, forefoot pain, Achilles tendon and tendon strains, knee pain, children’s walking assessment, post-operative rehabilitation, custom onsite foot orthotics, musculoskeletal laser, diagnostic ultrasound and radial shockwave therapy.
  • Performance and enhancement: walking and running assessment, force plate treadmill, 3D gait analysis, strengthening and mobility programs, and running technique coaching.

Heel pain, orthotics and the conditions we write about

We keep a page on our website for each condition we treat, so you can read about a problem before you ring us. Heel pain is the clearest example of why that matters. Under that one heading we deal with plantar fasciitis, bursitis, stress fractures, Sever’s disease, tarsal tunnel syndrome, nerve entrapment, rheumatoid arthritis, heel bone fracture and infection, and which one of those it turns out to be changes what happens next.

Custom orthotics follow a set path. A practitioner examines your feet, discusses your symptoms and your lifestyle, and then takes moulds or scans of your feet so the orthotics suit you. Some are more rigid, for serious foot problems; others are softer and more cushioned. They are made here on site.

Appointments, fees and health funds

Bookings run through the Cliniko online booking system on our website, or you can ring (08) 9841 3633, and email reaches us at [email protected]. We do not publish our opening hours online, so it is worth a phone call to check before you make the trip to Pioneer Road.

On private health rebates we put it plainly: whether you can get a rebate from your private health insurance will depend on your insurer and your policy, this varies between individuals, and the only reliable answer comes from checking with your insurer. If you are not sure whether a foot or lower limb problem is something we deal with, ring the practice and describe it.
