How we clean, and what we do about stains
There are two methods and they suit different carpets, so we will tell you which one yours wants before we start. Hot water extraction, which most people call steam cleaning, gives the deeper clean. It gets down into the pile and lifts dirt, dust mites and bacteria out of it, and it is the better option where there are spills and stains. Low moisture cleaning, also called encapsulation, works a compound into the carpet with a rotary machine; the compound crystallises around the dirt and is then vacuumed out. It dries much faster and uses far less water, but it does not suit every carpet.
What a steam clean actually involves
- Inspection: we look over the carpet before anything else happens.
- Vacuum: a commercial HEPA filter vacuum goes over the whole area.
- Pre-treatment: stains are treated individually first.
- Pre-spray and agitate: to work the solution into the dirt and any removable marks.
- Extraction: hot water extraction lifts the agent and the suspended soil back out.

Coffee, red wine, lipstick, chewing gum, vomit and blood are all worth asking us about. Urine is the one people underestimate. A basic clean will not fix it, because the problem is uric acid, and that needs a proper restoration treatment rather than soap and water or a home remedy off a search engine. Urea is the other half of it, and that is what you smell on a warm day. Urine soaks past the fibres into the backing and sometimes the sub floor, and often you cannot see any of it. We use a UV light and a moisture detector to find where it actually is, then treat that.
Upholstery, tiles and vinyl
We clean fabric upholstery from dining chairs through to lounge suites. The fabric decides the method, so we identify the fibre and test for colour fastness first, then pre-vacuum, pre-spray and agitate with a brush before cleaning. Over the years, oils from hair and skin transfer into the fabric and leave it looking dull and dirty, and taking that out revives the colour and extends the life of the furniture.
On hard floors, we clean tile and grout with specialised industrial equipment for both homes and commercial premises, and we have been trained in that work to the IICRC certification standard. We also strip and reseal vinyl and linoleum. That one is worth doing once the original finish has worn off, because unprotected flooring gets chewed up by grit dragged in on shoes. Beyond the floors we handle minor flood damage, end-of-lease cleans and window cleaning.
Training, standards and insurance
Stephen holds IICRC certifications in Carpet Cleaning, Colour Repair, Hard Floor Care, Odour Control, and Upholstery and Fabric Cleaning, along with Nation Training Advanced Stain Removal, Drymatic Australia Structural Drying 101, and Preo Training in Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning and Stain Removal. He keeps adding to it through workshops and courses run by the Carpet Cleaning Association of WA, where we hold membership number 1709. We clean carpets to Australian and New Zealand Standard 3733:2018, and we carry the appropriate insurance policies and a National Police Certificate.
