We are a family owned and operated business working out of 7A Ashford Street in Centennial Park, and we have been servicing the Great Southern since 1978. Family run, and still here since 1978
Nearly fifty years in the same district counts for something practical rather than sentimental. It means the housing stock around Albany is familiar to us – the older switchboards, the additions built onto additions, the sheds that grew a bit at a time – and so are the farms out past town. Our team of seven brings a hands-on, personal approach to every job, which is a plain way of saying that the person who quotes it is usually the person you see again.
The seven are Brodie Sumich, our Owner Director; Barend Becker, our Leading Senior Electrician; William Hallam and Flynn Sheehy, Senior Electricians; Jack Doak, Senior Apprentice; Jez Wakefield, Junior Apprentice; and Emma Banks in administration. Three senior electricians, two apprentices, one administrator and the owner. The two apprenticeships are the part worth pointing at, because a trade only keeps going in a regional town if somebody local is being taught it. We describe ourselves as trusted by generations of families and businesses, which is the sort of thing nearly fifty years in the one district earns rather than claims.
What we do
Our work splits into five areas. Most jobs sit squarely in one of them, and some, like a rural rewire with a new shed on the end of it, cross two or three.
Our services
- Residential: new installations for homes and extensions, rewires and renovation work, switchboard upgrades, GPOs and appliance replacements, ceiling sweep fans, TV outlets and antennas, phone and data cabling, underfloor and in-slab heating, underground power, and lighting of every sort including feature, outdoor and LED. We install EV chargers at home as well.
- Commercial: LED lighting installation and upgrades to bring energy use down, warehouse lighting, general electrical maintenance for offices, retail spaces and commercial buildings, and emergency lighting installation, testing and maintenance.
- Rural: electrical installations for farm sheds and outbuildings, underground power for rural properties, changeover switches so a generator can take over, and LED lighting and power points through sheds and work areas. We understand the demands of rural environments, and the work is meant to perform in tough conditions.
- Site power and meters: temporary and permanent meter installations, site power and builder’s supply, building site power for residential and commercial projects, and Western Power pillar applications. We work closely with builders and contractors to make sure power is available when it is needed.
- Maintenance: RCD and smoke alarm testing for compliance, fault finding and general repairs, appliance changeovers – like for like or an upgrade – and compliance inspections to identify risks.
Work that is not in a house
A good share of what we do never sees a lounge room. Changeover switches matter on a property a long way from town when a storm takes the power out, and underground power to a shed is a different job to running a circuit through a ceiling. On the building side, we handle temporary and permanent meters, builder’s supply and Western Power pillar applications, so the power is sorted before the trades turn up rather than after.
Safety, testing and the things that go quiet
Smoke alarms and RCD switches are steady work here, along with the testing that keeps them compliant. So are compliance inspections that pick up risks before they become something worse, and fault finding for the classic problem where something trips and nobody can say why. If you are buying, selling or renting out a place in Albany, that testing work is worth booking early rather than the week before settlement.
