Roberts Gardiner Architects: Architects in Albany WA
We are an Albany architectural practice working from the first floor of 69 Lockyer Avenue. As architects in Albany we work across the Great Southern and further afield in Western Australia on public buildings, commercial and retail developments, tourism, education, housing and health projects, for major government agencies and corporations as well as private clients.
Two Practices That Became One in 2006
The practice formally commenced in January 2006, following the merger of the individual practices of Michael Roberts Architect and Scott Gardiner Architect. Both principals had already built substantial portfolios in the region before that merger, and regional work is still what the practice runs on.
We are committed to producing buildings of excellence within economic, environmental, social and functional constraints. We believe architectural design excellence is achieved through teamwork and problem solving that fully satisfies the requirements of the client and the user. In day-to-day terms that means personal service, working closely with the client, understanding what the project actually needs, and keeping firm control of the design as it develops.
The Two Directors
Michael Roberts is a director of the practice. The buildings his own profile attributes to him include Albany Airport, the Albany Hospice, the Lions Community Care Centre, Great Southern Grammar School and several significant commercial developments. He has significant experience in many forms of construction contracts and has managed several design and construction projects. He has also served on various committees and design forums for the Albany Waterfront Development, the Great Southern Cultural Centre Feasibility Study and the Central Albany Urban Design Policy, which is to say that a fair share of his work has been about the shape of the town rather than a single building in it.
Scott Gardiner is the other director. He has gained extensive experience in the design, documentation and management of a variety of projects, from small residential work through to large scale commercial, retail and civic projects across Western Australia, and he brings a sound understanding of sustainable design principles and a great depth of technical knowledge of all forms of construction.
Buildings Around the Great Southern
Our portfolio runs to more than forty projects, grouped by the kind of work rather than the size of it. A good many of them are buildings Albany people walk past or into every week.

How We Work With Clients
Between the two principals we have completed work with major government agencies and corporations as well as many private sector clients, on tasks including master planning, feasibility studies, architecture, interior design and contract administration. That range means a project can stay with the one practice from the early questions about a site through to administering the building contract.
