We have been the bike shop in Albany at 79 Lockyer Avenue since 2012. It started as a hobby and turned into the job. The workshop, and what a service covers
Our mechanics work on anything that rolls on bike tyres, from a basic tune and lube through to a ground-up rebuild, and we have a particular interest in e-bikes in all their forms. Work is charged at an hourly shop rate with a minimum service charge, and we set out exactly what each package covers so you know what you are handing the bike over for. Ring us for current rates.
Service packages
- Tune-Up and Safety: wash, gear, brake and headset adjustment, wheel bearings inspected and adjusted, a minor wheel true, derailleurs, shifters, cables and chain lubed, fasteners torqued.
- Maintenance and Service: the tune-up plus repairs to breakages or misalignment, new parts fitted, headset opened and cleaned, drive chain degreased, seat post out, cleaned and pasted, and a frame polish.
- Dual Suspension Service: the above with all pivots cleaned and lubed, or replaced where they need it.
- Gold Level Detailing: the whole shebang. Complete strip down to the frame, everything inspected and cleaned, consumables replaced, brakes flushed and bled, sealant refilled, bar tape or grips replaced, then reassembled.
Add-ons are quoted the same way. Cable replacement includes the parts, and we also do fork lower services, shock air can services, and hydraulic brake flushes and bleeds. E-bikes carry a surcharge on the tune-up and on the larger packages, which covers cabling and plug inspection and a software diagnostic or update where it applies.
Bikes, from the first one to the fast one
We only stock brands we trust, because we stand behind everything we sell. Trek is the mainstay – family owned since 1975, with a lifetime frame warranty and the Project One programme if you want to spec your own. We also carry Scott from Switzerland, Kalkhoff and Focus from Germany, and Orbea, built in staff-owned co-operative factories in Spain.
For kids there is the Trek Precaliber in 12, 16, 20 and 24 inch, sized by age and height, with a handle in the saddle on the little ones so you can steer while they pedal. Mountain bikes start at the Marlin 4 and step up through the Marlin 5 – which you will see everywhere outside the schools around here – to the Marlin 6 and 7. On the road side we have the Domane for long comfortable days, the Emonda for climbing, and the Madone. We also stock electric tricycles and folding e-bikes from Ryder and TEBCO, which suit riders who want stability or something that packs into a caravan.
Lights, racks, helmets and the rest
Our accessory range is a good one for this part of the world, and if we do not have it we can usually get it. Lights run from AAA blinkers up to thousand-lumen units, from Bontrager, Cygolite, Gloworm and Serfas. Helmets come from Fox, Bontrager and Bell, in sizes from small children to the biggest heads – and remember, if it’s not on, it’s not on. We carry shoes and gloves from Bontrager and Louis Garneau, wheels from BMX through to carbon road, with locally made replacement wheels for most mountain, city and BMX bikes. For carrying bikes on a car, ute, camper trailer or caravan we stock Thule, Hollywood, Pacific and Gripsport racks, plus Garmin computers, Topeak tools, bells, trailers and panniers.
Riding around Albany
We reckon Albany is the best place to cycle in Western Australia – the trails, the cycleways, the scenery and, let us be honest, the cafes. We advocate for cycling infrastructure and work with the City on it, including offering expertise towards an Albany criterium track. We also point people towards the Albany Cycling Club, the Albany Bicycle Users Group, the Albany Mountain Bike Club, the Albany Over 50’s Cyclists and the Munda Biddi Trail Foundation, and we sponsor local riders across gravel, cross country, downhill and enduro.
