We are a family owned and operated shop at 154 Albany Highway, and we have been selling lights here since 2013. There are around 5,000 products across the shop and the website, running from downlights and LED globes through to chandeliers, ceiling fans, heaters and mirrors. Family owned, and run by someone who came from retail
Greg Spaanderman bought the business in 2013 and is our founder and managing director. He spent 16 years running a bicycle shop and a stretch in real estate before this, which adds up to more than 25 years of dealing with customers across a counter. The real estate years are where the interest in how a house looks came from.
The practical result is that we would rather talk you through a choice than sell you the first thing you point at. Lighting is one of those purchases where the picture on a screen tells you very little about how it will sit in your lounge room, so being able to stand in front of it matters.
What we stock
Our main ranges
- Indoor lighting: pendants, leadlight pendants, chandeliers, downlights, close to ceiling lights, spotlights, wall lights, LED strip and batten lights, and children’s lights.
- Lamps: table lamps and floor lamps.
- Outdoor lighting: exterior lights, up/down and cylinder lights, flood lights, bollard lights, solar lighting and exterior traditional fittings.
- Bathroom: bathroom lighting and ventilation.
- Globes: both LED globes and conventional globes.
- Not lighting at all: ceiling fans, ecco panel wall heaters, infrared patio heaters, mirrors, candles, clocks and art.
The website lets you browse by room as well as by category, so you can look at everything we have for a kitchen, an alfresco or a hallway in one go. There is also a style filter covering traditional, modern, industrial, art deco, glass, steel and natural, which is usually the faster way in if you already know the look you are after. Clearance items sit in their own section.
DIY fittings, and finding an electrician
Not every light needs a sparky. We carry a large range of DIY fittings that you can put up yourself, and we are happy to point out which is which before you buy.
For everything that does need a licensed electrician, we keep a list of local contractors on our website, covering Albany and the wider Great Southern as well as Mount Barker, Denmark, Walpole and Jerramungup. We are a shop rather than an electrical contractor, so we do not do the installation ourselves, but we can tell you who does.
We also keep a Tips and Ideas section on the site for the questions that come up most. LED globes use less power, run cooler and last longer than the old types, and because LEDs have no UV content they attract far fewer insects, which matters on a verandah in summer. Exterior stainless steel fittings need an occasional clean and a wipe with something like WD-40 or CRC to keep the salt air off them.
Freight, price matching and opening hours
Freight is free on orders over a set amount, and the current threshold is on our website. We will also match a cheaper price on a new item found at another Australian store, online or physical, where their final price including delivery, taxes and fees comes in lower. There are conditions on it: the item has to be new rather than reconditioned, and it does not cover clearance stock, coupon and voucher discounts, cash backs, bonus offers, limited quantity deals, finance offers, marketplace sales like eBay, or an advertising misprint.
