Locally owned and run since 1993
The business began as Albany Plant & Equipment Hire, set up by Steve and Steph Gorman as S & S Gorman Pty Ltd in 1993. In 2006 we changed the name to Coastal Cranes Albany to match what the company had actually become. We are a simply structured organisation, owned and operated by locally based management and staff. The owner is also the managing director and is available to speak to at all hours, so a decision can be made and acted on rather than passed up a chain. Management coordinates work directly with the crews.
We also try to put something back into the area we work in. Coastal Cranes supports local sporting and community groups across the Great Southern, and each year we are part of the Albany Classic Car Race, supplying cranes, operators and riggers.
Our depot and crane fleet
The Stirling Street depot was purpose built in 2001, with a fully enclosed workshop and secure undercover parking for every vehicle and crane. It was designed around keeping the fleet serviced and maintained, which keeps the cranes safe and keeps lost time off your job. Every crane is inspected annually so the national safety standard is maintained.
The cranes we hire out
- 20-tonne Franna: lifts 20 tonnes at a 1.4 metre radius, 17.9 metre main boom, 2.5 metres wide and 3.07 metres high, and travels at up to 90km/h.
- 25-tonne Franna: lifts 25 tonnes at a 1.4 metre radius, with an 18.4 metre main boom and 23.9 tonnes all up.
- 55-tonne Liebherr LTM1055-3.2: lifts 55 tonnes at 2.5 metres, with a 40 metre main boom, a 16 metre fly jib and up to 12 tonnes of counterweight.
- 100-tonne Liebherr LTM1100/2: lifts 100 tonnes at 2.7 metres, with a 52 metre main boom, a 19 metre fly jib and up to 35 tonnes of counterweight.

What we lift, at home and on site
Residential work is a big part of what we do: spas, boats, soakwells, site offices, shed erection, tree removal, cubby houses, sea containers, swimming pools, transportable houses and domestic construction. On commercial jobs we lift trucks, trains, roof sheets, septic tanks, bridge beams, concrete panels, building materials, air-conditioner units and communication towers, and we take on shed erection and shut-down maintenance.
