The Lake House Denmark: lakeside restaurant and cafe in Denmark WA
Our restaurant and cafe sits on the vineyard at 106 Turner Road, Denmark, looking out over a spring-fed lake about five minutes from town. The gates are open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm and lunch is served from 11am to 3pm. Where you sit
There is a lakeside deck, an alfresco garden and a verandah off the restaurant, and you are not obliged to stay at a table. Take a picnic table out on the deck, sit under the willow trees, or spread a rug on the banks of the lake. The valley around you is vineyard and majestic karri, and the lake at the bottom of it is spring fed. Dogs are welcome. The whole point of the place, as we see it, is that people slow down here, sit in some nature and reconnect over lunch.
What comes out of the kitchen
The menu runs on vineyard lunch platters and grazing boards. Fresh fruit and vegetables come from our organic kitchen garden a short walk away, and most of the rest comes from around the Great Southern: local cheeses, cold-cut meats, house-baked bread. Our own Vinofood condiments go on the board alongside them, hand-made in small batches in the commercial kitchen here, gluten free and free of artificial preservatives and colours. Gluten free and vegetarian options are available on request. After the lunch service, coffee and house-made cake carry on until half past three.

Picnic hampers by the lake
The hamper is a shared vineyard lunch platter for two: Mount Barker smoked chicken, Italian sausage, local smoked ham, vegetable frittata, a seasonal dip, camembert and cheddar, house-baked bread, wafers and Vinofood condiments, with pieces of Vinofood rocky road to finish. A bottle of wine comes with it, chosen from our He Said She Said range. We pack everything you need for a picnic by the lake, rug, cutlery and glassware included. You can eat it at a picnic table on the deck, under the willow trees or on the bank of the lake. Hampers must be pre-ordered, so we cannot do same-day requests. If you would rather take it away, collection runs between 11am and 3pm, or we can deliver it to your accommodation for a delivery fee.
Small weddings, celebrations and how to book
We host intimate luncheons and small weddings here for up to 30 to 40 guests, in a quiet valley overlooking the lake and gardens. Birthdays, hens’ parties, club lunches, anniversaries, Christmas functions and business events all work in the same setting. Catering is tailored personally to the event, our own wines are poured, and we make celebration cakes. Because the numbers are capped, this is a venue for a small gathering rather than a large one.
